Janet Fitch's 10 Rules of Writing

If you missed this list, check it out here. The LA Times reprinted Janet's rules last month. These are worth printing out and keeping next to your keyboard. My favorite? #1: "Write the sentence, not just the story". Great stuff.

  1. That is a great list. I love #10 (a little too much--maybe I should be worried). If things are too easy for your protagonist, the story will get boring really fast.

  2. Hah, that "pick a better verb" one...I resemble the need for that. :-)

  3. Thanks! Great list. I really liked the "write in scenes" idea. That is going on my list of tings to double check when the project is done...:)

  4. I think I'm following those rules, but I'm sure I can do a lot better.

  5. THose are excellent. Most of us know them by now, but the trick is instilling them into our writer's brain so that they become natural. :)
